Cupping Therapy

Curious about cupping but not quite ready for acupuncture? You don't have to commit to a full acupuncture treatment to experience it.

Cupping therapy is a simple, non-invasive treatment that uses gentle suction to lift the skin and superficial tissues. The cups create a negative pressure that encourages movement of the tissues beneath the cup and can be used to address areas that feel tight, restricted, or overworked. Cupping has been used for thousands of years in traditional healing practices. During a treatment, cups are placed on the skin and suction is created inside the cup. Depending on the area being treated and your goals, cups may remain stationary for several minutes or be gently moved across the skin using oil or lotion. The sensation is typically described as a pulling or lifting feeling rather than pressure or pain. Your treatment can be adjusted based on your comfort level, and stronger suction isn't necessarily better. Cupping can be used on areas such as the back, shoulders, neck, hips, legs, and other large muscle groups where tension or muscular restriction is present.

At Revive, cupping can be incorporated into an acupuncture treatment or booked as a standalone 15-minute treatment focused on the area where you need it most.

Will cupping leave marks?

Cupping often leaves temporary circular marks where the cups were placed. These aren't bruises in the traditional sense, although they can look similar. The color can range from light pink to deep red or purple depending on your individual response, the amount of suction used, and how long the cups are left in place. Marks typically fade on their own over several days, although they can occasionally last longer.

If you're getting cupping before an event, vacation, wedding, or anything where you don't want visible marks, let us know and we can skip cupping altogether or do light moving cups that will not leave marks.

Do you offer facial cupping?

Yes! Facial cupping and gua sha are done with a much gentler technique than on the body and are great to relieve tension in the facial muscles, stimulate collagen production and clear the sinuses. Facial cupping is done during a regular acupuncture session for orthopedic conditions like jaw pain, and during our custom facial rejuvenation treatment for cosmetic purposes.
